Scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) has advanced rapidly in the last decade thanks to the ability to correct the spherical aberrations of the electron probe-forming lens. Atomic positions can be mapped with picometer precision, revealing ferroelectric domain structures. Furthermore, the energy resolution of electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) has been improved to the extent that it can analyze the characteristics of the infrared characterization by adopting the monochromator. One more step evolution of the chemical analysis level allows us to measure various physical/chemical properties that we have never observed in the TEM. In this talk, I will present STEM/EELS results using the latest monochromator and discuss the future application of the electronic energy loss spectroscopy for polymer.
