Hydrogel-based sensors have attracted considerable attention due to their flexibility and biocompatibility. However, low mechanical and electrical properties as the water inside the hydrogel freezes at a low temperature limit the application of hydrogel devices. Here, a physical hydrogel was prepared using hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) and laponite as a crosslinking agent and controlling hydrophobicity with methyl methacrylate (MMA) and soluble ion with LiCl to fabricate hydrogels with high toughness, anti-freezing properties, and conductivity. Moreover, the resulting P(HEA-co-MMA) hydrogels can be applied to tough hydrogel temperature sensors that can detect mechanical movements of the human body and temperature changes. This strategy demonstrates the substantial potential for the development of wearable hydrogel sensors.
