All-Solution-Processed Stretchable Solar Cells

Recently, advent of stretchable organic solar cells (SOSCs) have attracted much attention as a self-power source for wearable devices (i.e., biosensors, electronic skins, and stretchable displays). They have the unique features of high power-per-weight output and mechanical robustness on stretching/releasing cycle fatigue tests. Herein, we developed a new SOSC with 11.2% PCE, retaining a performance of 74% of initial PCE under the 10% strain 1,000 times. Specifically, TPU substrate suppress the crack formation by providing smooth surface and reliable binding with upper stretchable layers. In addition, by visualizing the stress distribution of the multi-layer structure, we have demonstrated that the systematic design and choices of suitable materials play an important role in implementation of our SOSCs that go beyond the limits of materials.
