Fabrication of anti-microbial silver-carbon composite foams for effective wound dressing

Developement of advanced wound healing dressings that possess anti-microbial properties for wound surface and absorbed exudate is challenging study. The polyurethane (PU) foam is one of the widely used moisture dressings that have excellent ability to absorb exudate from wounds. In this study, we fabricated anti-microbial biomass-based PU foams including silver nanoparticles and activated carbon. The mechanical property, water absorption rate, absorptivity, morphology and cell viability of the PU foam were characterized. The PU forms containing silver-carbon composites showed significantly improved wound healing compared to controls in animal model wound closing experiment.
