We designed organogels by mimicking the mucus of the olfactory system and developed a system in which VOCs can be effectively adsorbed and retained. Since the viscosity of the adsorbent and the VOC absorption kinetics are closely related, there was a trade-off relationship between adsorption and retention efficiency. However, high adsorption and retention efficiency of VOCs were obtained simultaneously by applying the polymer material properties that enabled the sol-gel phase transition. Furthermore, the high viscosity gel showed that VOCs retention efficiency was hardly affected by the characteristic of VOCs such as vapor pressure.
