Despite the reversible condensation properties of DNA with metal ions (Mn+s), the synthesis of spherically condensed Mn+-DNA nanocomposites and their reduction have been rarely investigated. We synthesized a positively charged new Au3+ complex via ligand-exchange, which efficiently induces DNA condensation through coordination and electrostatic interaction. We also presented how these spherically condensed Au3+-DNA nanocomposites serve as dynamic templates for the synthesis of uniform Au nanostructures with unprecedented morphologies. We selectively reduced the Au3+-DNA nanoparticles by dynamically controlling their conformation transition via different chemical routes. Based on our approach, other soft materials such as RNA and proteins can be used as dynamic templates with different metal ions for the synthesis of various metal nanostructures.
