Synthesis of Poly(amide-imide)s Containing Hexafluoroisopropylidene Linkages for Flexible Display

As the expectation to the next generation of display uprising, much research progress has been made with high temperature polymers including poly(amide-imide)s (PAIs) known as one of promising materials for many applications. PAIs have high thermal stability and mechanical properties together with optical property and thermo-dimensional stability, which make them suitable for flexible display applications when their chemical structure is properly modified. In this study, we synthesized a new acid monomer containing a rigid-rod biphenyl group and highly electronegative hexafluoroisopropylidene linkage. Transparent and thermostable PAIs were prepared by polyamidation with diamine monomers. Detailed synthetic route and their properties will be presented.
