Spray-dried cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) powder prepared via TEMPO mediated oxidation and treated in a high pressure homogenizer are used as filler in a polypropylene (PP) matrix. In order to improve the dispersion and ease of handing of CNF powder, we have investigated the surface modification of PP pellet by mechanical treatment and the combined use of dispersants. The nanocomposites consisted various dispersant, with PP/CNF/dispersant ratio of 90/10/3 (wt/wt/wt), respectively. CNF dispersion in the nanocomposites was analyzed by examining the distribution of oxygen element using SEM-EDS. The use of a dispersant was helpful in uniform dispersion of CNF in the PP matrix.
