Intra Molecular Charge Transfer from Phenanthro-Imidazole based T and Y Shaped Donor-Acceptor molecules

The molecular geometry effects of phenanthro-imidazole based donor-acceptor-donor molecules on intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) were studied structure-ICT relationship. The T and Y shaped fluorophores consisting of an imidazole ring end-capped with two electrons donating phenoxazine (PXZ) and phenothiazine (PTZ) groups at C6, C9 and C5, C10 and one electron-withdrawing trifluoromethyl (-CF3) group on the imidazole moiety at position C2 were examined. The photophysical, electrochemical and thermal characters of the compounds were systematically investigated, which consistent well with the theoretical quantum chemical calculations. In addition, solvent polarity effect on the relaxation dynamics has also been studied.
