Effects of Chalcogenophene Comonomers on Diazapentalene-Based Copolymers for Organic Field-Effect Transistors

Herein, we report the narrow-bandgap polymers based on the bicyclic 2,5-diazapentalene (DAP) building block with chalcogenophene comonomers which are furan, thiophene and selenophene for organic field effect transistors (OFETs). DAP chromophores are easily obtained by chemical transformation of the lactam unit in diketo[3,4-c]pyrrolepyrrole (DPP), as well as more electron deficient compared to the DPP unit. With synthesized DAP-based copolymers, optoelectrical properties via UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and density functional theory were discussed as a function of the different chalcogenophenes. The systematic investigation of heteroaromatics provide insights into the understanding of their structural properties on OFETs, facilitating the development of high performance of OFETs.
