With the increasing concern for discovering a new pathway of ambient stability in organic photovoltaics (OPVs), a family of the photo-oxidation additive based on butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) unit with structurally different functional groups were synthesized. The effects of photo-oxidation additive (BHT-CN and BHT-PF) were thoroughly investigated to obtain a direct comparison with the widely used BHT scavenger. Among them, PHT-PF was found to be the most effective, resulting in a remarkable PCE compared with commercial BHT additive. Interestingly, the BHT-PF has a high dielectric constant that can not only induce the enhanced dielectric property of the active layer but also serves as a morphological locking-in agent, conferring long-term and thermal device stabilities and photo-oxidant with high photo-stability.
