For a given random donor copolymer, due to the random arrangement of monomer in main backbone, the batch-to-batch variations can lead to inconsistent process-dependent material properties and consequent performance variations in the device application. Herein, shown in this work are a series of PM6-based polymers obtained by controlling the sequence of monomers to fine-tune the energetics and morphology of this high-performance OPV material. The study demonstrates a facile and effective strategy for synthesizing sequence-controlled semiconducting polymers that can significantly improve PCEs in polymer-based solar cells, and an important factor for the developing random copolymer donor with only controlling the sequence of monomers.
