Influences of Nanoparticles on Ion Conduction in Poly(lithium acrylate)-based Solid Polymer Electrolytes (SPEs)

Many researches are conducted to develop solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) that show higher electrical and mechanical properties, compare to liquid electrolytes. We prepared poly(lithium acrylate)-based SPEs which were combined with cross-linkable vinyl nanoparticles (either silica or alumina). The addition of the nanoparticles increased ionic conductivity of SPEs due to the interaction between nanoparticles and ionic species, but also increased mechanical properties of SPEs through crosslinking the polymer chains. We investigated the influences of nanoparticles on ionic conduction and thermal and viscoelastic properties of poly(lithium acrylate)-based nanocomposite SPEs, using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), rheometer, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). This investigation will provide useful insights for the design of organic-inorganic hybrid SPEs for energy applications.
