Due to its excellent thermal stability, chemical resistance and low friction coefficient, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a suitable material for coating and lubricant in harsh circumstances. However, there are difficulties in processing PTFE because of its high melt viscosity and insolubility in most solvents. In the melt process, the physical properties of the final product are highly affected the crystallization behaviour of the copolymer. In this article, we studied the crystallization kinetics of the copolymers of tetrafluoroethylene and perfluoropropyl vinyl ether by DSC isothermal analysis. Using the Avrami equation, the crystallization rates at different temperatures of the copolymer were determined. The crystallization rate increased with initiator concentration, due to the lower molecular weight of the produced copolymer. With the comonomer content, the activation energy of crystallization increased initially, but decreased with further addition.
