Due to their good oxidative and chemical resistance and high thermal stability, ceramic filters have been applied to a filtration application in harsh circumstances. For effective filtration performances of high selectivity and permeability, the filters are desired to have hierarchical pore structure. In this study, we fabricated hierarchically porous ceramic nanoweb by applying electrospinning and nonsolvent induced phase separation. Phenyl-silsesquiazane (SSQZ), a branched polysilazane, was electrospun with a high molecular weight poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO). The macropore structure of the nanofibers was introduced and modified by changing the ratios of solvent and nonsolvent. The nanoweb was stably ceramized by pyrolyzing at 700°C, which was confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy analysis. The presence and distribution of the micro-, meso- and macropores were confirmed by N2 adsorption isotherm analysis and mercury intrusion.
