Recent single molecule experiments showed that the cell cytoplasm, a factory of biochemical reactions, should be glass-like: the diffusion of proteins cell cytoplasm is, especially, slow, heterogeneous and sometimes non-ergodic. The effects of such intriguing glassy diffusion on the kinetics of biochemical reactions in biological systems remain elusive. In this talk, we present extensive molecular dynamics simulations and Langevin dynamics simulations to investigate the kinetics of polymer loop formation in Kob-Anderson (KA) glass-forming liquid as a model system. We show that the loop formation kinetics is influenced significantly by the dynamic heterogeneity in glass-forming liquids. The dynamic heterogeneity of KA liquid affects the rate constant (krxn) of the loop formation and leads to the identical fractional dependence of krxn on ηs. This suggests that the dynamic heterogeneity of cell cytoplasm would influence the biochemical reaction significantly.
