Achieving orthogonal solubility is a key issue in solution-processed multilayer quantum dot light-emitting devices. On the basis that conventional organic layers are resistant to water/alcohol, we demonstrate here orthogonal process of water/alcohol soluble quantum dots as an upper layer. Postsynthetic ligand exchange with dihydrolipoic acid offers stabilization of the quantum dots in water/alcohol without changing their photophysical properties.
