Photoluminescent carbon dots (C-dots) incorporated keratin/poly (vinyl alcohol) (keratin/PVA) hydrogels were prepared via an electron beam irradiation (EBI) technique in order to exploit the photoluminescent property of C-dots and biocompatibility of the keratin/PVA hydrogels. The porous structure along with the homogeneous networks of hydrogels showed excitation dependant photoluminescent (PL) emission similar to that of the C-dots. The well preserved quantum confinement effect of the C-dots in the hydrogel can extend its application to various fields such as optoelectronic devices, metal ion detection, and biomedical applications.
