Abstract

Fuel vapor permeation, especially from automotive fuel hoses, is a major cause of air pollution. Global environmental regulations are continuously strengthening to reduce hazardous fluorinated material emissions and limit fuel permeation rates to a maximum of 60 g/day·m². In this study, we cast a polyurethane matrix-based composite (consisting of PEG as the polyol, IPDI as the diisocyanate, and graphene oxide) onto a commercial standard TPU film to improve its fuel barrier characteristics. The PEG-based PU-GO composite is systematically characterized by FTIR, PSA, TGA, SEM, and XRD. Additionally, thermal and mechanical properties of the coated materials were firgured out via DSC, UTM. Finally, the promising gas barrier performance of the coating is investigated by calculating the fuel permeation rate via the cup test method.
