Abstract
Photonic crystal-based electrophoretic displays (EPDs) have attracted significant attention as low-power, reflective displays. However, inks formulated by dispersing EPD particles often suffer from particle aggregation and poor colloidal stability. To address these challenges, this study aims to enhance the stability of EPD materials through microencapsulation. Inks were prepared by dispersing superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) as the core EPD material, and microencapsulation was successfully achieved via a complex coacervation process. Optical microscopy (OM) analysis confirmed the successful formation of spherical microcapsules. This work serves as a foundational study that can be widely applied to the encapsulation of photonic crystal-based EPD inks in the future.
