Abstract
The chemical recyclability of a bio-based vanillin-derived polymer (PDVSA), was investigated through repeated depolymerization and repolymerization cycles. Recovered monomers obtained from depolymerization were reused for polymer resynthesis to evaluate closed-loop recyclability. The chemical structures of the polymer and recovered monomers were characterized by ¹H NMR and FTIR spectroscopy, while molecular weight changes were monitored by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The initial polymerization achieved a monomer conversion exceeding 99.9%, yielding PDVSA with a molecular weight of approximately 12,500 g mol⁻¹. After two depolymerization–repolymerization cycles, the recycled polymers retained molecular weights of approximately 9,800 and 10,000 g mol⁻¹, respectively. These results demonstrate the efficient closed-loop chemical recycling of PDVSA and highlight its potential as a sustainable polymer for circular material applications
