Abstract

Electrochromism, a phenomenon in which color changes occur through electrochemical redox reactions, has recently attracted considerable attention for applications in various fields. In this study, electrochromic polymers were synthesized using viologen, which exhibits excellent electrochromic properties, and diamines having different substituents. The chemical structures of the synthesized polymers were characterized by ¹H NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy. Electrochromic devices were subsequently fabricated using the synthesized polymers, and their electrochemical and electrochromic properties were evaluated by C-V spectrum and UVvis spectroscopy. The results showed that polymers containing meta-substituted units exhibited higher coloration efficiency and better operational stability than those containing ortho-substituted units. In addition, polymers bearing electron-donating groups demonstrated greater operational stability than those bearing electron-withdrawing groups.
