Abstract

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have been actively researched since 2009 and have now achieved a certified efficiency of 28%. KRICT has played a pioneering role from the early stages of PSC research, contributing to the rapid and remarkable progress in PSC performance. The perovskite research team at KRICT set and broke the world record for certified power conversion efficiency (PCE) seven times on the NREL chart, eventually exceeding a PCE of 25%. KRICT’s pioneering work includes the development of solvent engineering methods for perovskite formation, compositional engineering for the utilization of FAPbI₃ photoabsorbers, and defect annihilation in both the bulk and surface regions of perovskite layers. Currently, KRICT is bridging the lab-to-fab divide by transitioning from small-area cells to large-area perovskite solar modules (PSMs) using industry-compatible processes. Recent achievements include a certified module efficiency of 20.6%, which was recorded on the NREL module chart in 2024.

In this presentation, I will briefly introduce the pathway toward highly efficient perovskite solar modules with good reproducibility and long-term stability. I will present recent progress in the development of large-area perovskite solar modules. In addition, other research achievements of the team will be briefly introduced. Finally, perspectives on future research directions for large-area perovskite solar modules will be presented.
