Abstract

Polyimide (PI) is attracting a lot of attention as an insulating material based on excellent thermal stability and mechanical properties. In this study, diamine having a spiro structure was introduced into the polyimide main chain to investigate the effect of molecular structure on the dielectric and thermal properties of polyimide. A total of 4 types of polyimide were synthesized using two types of spiro-structured diamines and two types of dianhydrides (6FDA and HPMDA). The structure and properties of the synthesized polyimide were analyzed through 1H NMR, FT-IR, GPC, DSC, and TGA, and dielectric properties were evaluated using LCR meter. All the polyimide showed excellent thermal stability and a dielectric constant of 3.0 or less. In particular, 6FDA-based polyimide showed lower dielectric constant in a high frequency region than HPMDA-based polyimide. These results show that molecular main chain design using spiro-structured diamines is a method that can effectively control the dielectric and thermal properties of polyimide.
