Abstract

In polymer network systems for stimuli-responsive optical materials, it is important to simultaneously achieve molecular mobility and material stability. We developed a flexible optical paint by introducing cyanostilbene side chains into a flexible polysiloxane backbone (Si-CS) and forming a self-crosslinked network through residual Si-H groups. The photoresponsive behavior of this polymer enabled light-induced optical changes in both transmittance and luminescence even in the solid state, while the self-crosslinking reaction enhanced its flexibility and stability. Upon UV irradiation, the transmittance rapidly increased to more than 80%, and the emission peak blue-shifted from 462 to 441 nm. After self-crosslinking, the film maintained its stability at 180 °C and under 100% strain. Furthermore, photopatterning, polarized light emission, and coating on flexible substrates demonstrated the potential of this material as a security optical coating.
