S7 Innovations in Polymeric Composites: From Design and Processing to Industrial Applications
This session highlights recent advances in polymeric composites, encompassing both purely organic blends and systems reinforced with inorganic additives. Progress has been made from tailored matrix and interface design to scalable processing strategies, enabling simultaneous optimization of mechanical robustness, electrical functionality, and thermal management. This session will emphasize advances in interfacial engineering and structural control that enable a deeper understanding of structure–property relationships and the development of multifunctional composites. Particular attention will also be given to scalable processing routes that support industrial adoption. These approaches support cost-effective production under energy-efficient or ambient conditions. Overall, these advances demonstrate how innovations in polymeric composite design and processing are facilitating the transition from laboratory concepts to industrial implementation.
Topics will include:
- Design and synthesis of polymeric composites, from all-organic blends to hybrid systems with inorganic reinforcements
- Interfacial engineering and structural control for optimized structure–property relationships
- Scalable processing strategies, including solution-based processing, melt processing, molding, additive manufacturing, and roll-to-roll fabrication
- Advanced characterization of mechanical, electrical, and thermal performance in multifunctional composites
- Integration of composites into industrially relevant applications such as packaging, thermal management, wearable and flexible devices, EMI shielding, and structural electronics
- Pathways to industrial translation, including energy-efficient manufacturing, reliability, and life-cycle considerations
