Samsung Electronics launched USD 1.5 billion 10-year grant programs to support creative and innovative R&Ds in the areas of “Fundamental Science”, “Novel Materials” and “Information and Communication Technology (ICT) based Convergence” in Korea in 2013. The programs aim to contribute to catalyzing creative and challenging R&Ds and building the infrastructure of technology innovation for the benefit of the broader society and economy, through supporting R&Ds at academia, public research institutes and R&D centers of small business in Korea. A research proposal which is regarded challengeable should be based on proposer’s own original and ingenious idea, and eventually lead to scientific advance and have broader impacts on the world:
1. Discovery of new phenomena
2. Establishment of novel/disruptive theory
3. Solutions to specific problems
4. New concepts in fundamental science
5. Innovative methodology for above-mentioned researches
