Inducing chirality to conjugated polymer for CISS effect-based spin transistors

Chiral induced spin selectivity(CISS) is the preferential transmission of electrons with one spin orientation over the other through chiral molecules. By inducing chirality to conjugated polymers, the electronic properties with CISS effect can be applied to spintronic devices. In this work, chirality is induced in P(NDI2OD-T2) using a chiral solvent, and the film is fabricated by an off-center coating method. In thin films, the chiral solvent affects P(NDI2OD-T2) to generate new peaks in circular dichroism, peak shifts with anisotropy in UV-Vis spectroscopy, and chiral nanostructures in AFM. Furthermore, chiral conjugated polymers are applied to field effect transistors and exhibit different electrical properties depending on the direction of the external magnetic field, leading to the development of a CISS effect-based spin transistor. In conclusion, this work contributes to the correlation between chiral conjugated polymer thin film morphology, electrical properties, and spin properties in CISS effect-based spin transistors.
