In photoelectrochemical (PEC) solar fuel production, two primary strategies are representative for enhancing performance. The first focuses on improving the efficiency of stable inorganic materials. The second strategy aims to stabilize high-efficiency materials. In this presentation, I will explore both strategies, with a special emphasis on the latter. Despite their significant potential, organic and inorganic-organic hybrid semiconductor-based photoelectrodes have been underutilized in PEC water-splitting due to their vulnerability to degradation in water. I will discuss methods to stabilize efficient organic or inorganic-organic hybrid semiconductors, emphasizing their superior charge-transfer properties, adjustable energy levels, and cost-effectiveness. Moreover, I will extend this approach to enhance the performance of PEC hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and ammonia (NH3) production.
