Enhanced Mechanical Strength and Oxidation Stability of Organic Solvents Dispersible MXene by Functionalization with Natural Cross-linkable Thermosetting Polymer

2D MXenes, a sheet-like transition metal carbide or nitride material, notably Ti3C2Tx MXene, boasts exceptional electrical conductivity and mechanical strength made it as an ideal material for application in electronics, energy storage, and EMI shielding. However, its susceptibility to rapid oxidation in aqueous environments is an urgent issue to address. The surface functionalization of MXene is one of the best possible strategies to overcome above issues. In the present study, naturally derived organic cross-linker has been developed and used for surface functionalization of MXene. This approach enhanced both oxidation resistance, mechanical strength, and dispersion stability in organic solvents. The functionalized MXene showed promising results in lithium ion batteries and EMI shielding applications. **The research was supported by a grant from the Academic Research Program of Korea National University of Transportation in 2024.
