The influence of side chain structure of acrylic binders for Si anodes

초록

내용
Acrylic binders are polymers that enhance the contact between silicon (Si) and lithium ions in the anodes of lithium-ion batteries. Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC), a commonly used binder, exhibits strong hydrogen bonding between -OH groups and Si, but it has a high Tg, limited flexibility, and is prone to breaking. These characteristics lead to poor cycling performance and capacity loss in Si anodes. To improve flexibility, Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR) was introduced. In this study, we synthesized acrylic binders with low Tg and high flexibility by copolymerizing monomers with varying side chain lengths, such as 2-ethylhexyl acrylate and butyl acrylate, with methyl methacrylate (MMA) and methacrylic acid (MAA), and then mixed them with CMC to enhance flexibility. We assessed the binders' properties using differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis to measure Tg and thermal stability. The adhesion performance was evaluated using 180° peel tests and compared with the SBR/CMC binder
