Noble-Metal-Free High Entropy Alloys Nanoparticles with Highly Stable ORR/OER Bifunctional Electrocatalysts

The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) play vital roles in next-generation energy technologies, such as metal-air batteries, water splitting, and fuel cells. However, these reactions require high overpotentials due to complex electron transfer processes, and the reliance on precious metal-based electrodes makes sustainable energy solutions costly. To address these issues, we developed a novel synthesis method for a noble metal-free high-entropy alloy (HEA) composed of FeCoNiMnCu under low-temperature conditions. By selecting a reducing agent capable of effectively reducing the metal precursor, we successfully synthesized single-phase solid solution HEAs without precious metals at ambient temperature and pressure. This innovative approach yielded an FeCoNiMnCu HEA electrocatalyst with outstanding OER and ORR performance, coupled with long-term stability in alkaline media.
