Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is a biodegradable polymer derived from renewable resources, which makes it an environmentally friendly material with broad applications. PLA is known for its high tensile strength and excellent transparency, leading to its increasing use in recent years. However, its low elongation at break and brittleness limit its processing potential. This study aims to address these issues by blending PLA with poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) to enhance its toughness. To improve the compatibility between PLA and PBAT, a chain extender was synthesized and added in varying amounts to the blend. The thermal, mechanical, and morphological properties were then analyzed. The results showed that the synthesized chain extender effectively acted as a compatibilizer, improving the interfacial adhesion between PLA and PBAT, which in turn significantly increased the tensile strength and modulus of the blend.
