We fabricated a thin-film composite membrane consisting of urea-bonded networks (UN) as the selective layer and polyamide membrane as the support for molecular separation application. UN was prepared via a one-pot organic sol-gel method by which colloidal dispersions (sols) were made by the polymerization of tetrakis(4-aminophenyl)methane (TAPM) and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI). The sols were blended with a small amount of polymers (e.g. polysulfone) and cast on a glass plate where the support was installed before solvent evaporation. We performed morphological characterizations of the thin-film composite. This fabrication method could result in huge possibilities for resolving most thin-film membranes' processability and tunability issues without compromising their rigidity.
