For years, perovskite devices have garnered attention due to their flexibility, cost efficiency, and ease of manufacturing. However, significant concern about the lead (Pb) ion leakage into the environment hinders the applicability of lead-based perovskite materials. Chemical compounds consisting of functional groups that can coordinate with Pb ions can be utilized to address this problem. Carbohydrates, one of the most ubiquitous class of polymer, contains numerous hydroxyl (-OH) groups, where oxygen atoms can form donor-acceptor type linkages with Pb ions. Nonetheless, carbohydrate films are typically opaque, posing an obstacle to the performance of perovskite devices. In this project, we designed a carbohydrate-based derivative that exhibits excellent lead-capturing capability and appropriate transparency for the display industry. Our material shows great lead sequestration efficiency (SQE), up to 95%, and remains good Pb capturing capacity in extreme conditions.
