Novel Rigid-Island Fabrication by New Polymer Design

The advent of stretchable electronics has opened up a myriad of possiblities, from wearable health monitors to soft robotics. These innovative applications demand electronic systems that not only maintain functionality under mechanical deformation but also withstand repeated stretching cycles.
One notable example is the rigid island system. This method effectively isolates these components from the mechanical strains, thereby enabling the use of inorganic electronic components. As a result, rigid island system can preserve the performance and integrity of these components.
However, this system has its limitations. The difference in modulus can create weak interfaces. Therefore, when the system is repeatedly stretched, delamination can occur.
Here, I report a novel polymer design and a new method for fabricating rigid island using this polyer. I will discuss more details for the novel rigid-island fabrication method in my poster presentation.
