Randomization of materials can work for security media due mainly to information encoding density and unpredictability. For the controlled randomization, soft-materials are advantageous for feature variation, processing, large-scale realization, and tunability. In this presentation, we will cover soft materials-based security media utilizing controlled random assembly including block-copolymer (BCP) and colloidal particles assembly for enhanced information density and unpredictability targeting for physical unclonable function (PUF). Firstly, we will present several BCP self-assembly nano-patterns. The disordered patterns could serve as PUF. We will provide strategies to control the quality and complexity of the BCP self-assembled patterns. Secondly, we will present partially disordered assembly of colloidal particles to enhance unpredictability of the optical responses. For the different types of materials, we will also talk about quantitative measures for the disorder.
