Hydrolytic degradation of polyester based on camphor and tartaric acids: pH value and time

Two types of main-chain polyesters containing camper and tartaric acid were synthesized and characterized as a function of pH value and time. The thermal stability of all polymers was measured by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) up to 414°C, and the degradable behavior of the synthesized films was observed to difference depending on the surface roughness. The degree of surface degradation as a function of the pH value was about 3.0-5.4 times that of the conventional reference. In particular, the longer the exposure time to the same pH value, the greater the surface roughness change in surface roughness of the polyesters were measured. These results indicate that the degree of hydrolysis of the new polyesters is sensitive to the pH exposure time of the polyester.
