Vertical stacked double organic photodiodes for selective light sensing

Organic photodiodes (OPDs) are gaining attention in optoelectronic applications such as image sensors, and bio-signal sensors due to their light weight, flexibility, and solution-processable layers, which allow for large-area fabrication at lower costs. Furthermore, OPD arrays with multiple channels can selectively recognize light across various wavelengths. However, traditional OPD arrays often face issues with increased device area. We demonstrate the stacked double OPDs, utilizing ultra-thin metal layers and dielectric/metal/dielectric structured electrodes to balance conductivity and optical transparency. The absorption regions of each device, which depend on the active materials, are divided into visible light (PTB7-Th:PC70BM) and infrared-red region (PTB7-Th:IEICO-4F). Our results show that these 3D-stacked double OPDs achieve effective wavelength selectivity. This innovative device architecture promises advancements in multi-channel applications with reduced power consumption and enhanced integration capabilities.
