TiO2-based composite/hybrid nanomaterial as Photocatalyst for Water Purification

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) has emerged as a leading photocatalyst due to its strong oxidative power, chemical stability, and non-toxicity. However, its practical application in water purification faces challenges such as limited visible light activity and rapid recombination of electron-hole pairs. To address these limitations, TiO2-based composite and hybrid nanomaterials have been developed. This review paper provides a comprehensive overview of recent advances in TiO2-based composites and hybrid nanomaterials for water purification. The paper discusses various synthesis methods, characterization techniques, photocatalytic mechanisms, modifications to enhance its performance, and the effectiveness of these materials in degrading pollutants. In addition, various strategies including doping, coupling with other semiconductors, and surface modifications, are explored to improve the efficiency of TiO2-based composite and hybrid nanomaterials as photocatalysts in water purification.
