Unwanted attachment of marine organisms on solid surfaces leads to serious economic and ecological problems. To solve these problems, various coating methods have been explored. A notable example is hydrophilic polymer coatings. However, these hydrophilic coatings have the drawback of increasing the adsorption of marine sediments, which results in a reduction of their marine antifouling performance. To address this issue, amphiphilic polymer coatings have been frequently utilized. Herein, we report on the synthesis of amphiphilic copolymers composed of sulfobetaine methacrylate and isobornyl methacrylate, and the grafting of the copolymers onto solid surfaces.
