Lymphedema is the accumulation of lymphatic fluid and can be caused by a variety of factors, which can lead to infection and even death. Fluorography is currently performed using a conventional hypodermic syringe, which causes great pain to patients. Here, we propose a polymeric microneedle device with unlimited drug loading capacity and good skin permeability. We designed a system that can deliver drugs by capillary force by increasing the wettability through microneedle surface engineering, and confirmed that it has enhanced skin penetration performance by silica coating. We also successfully injected fluorescent drugs into lymphatic vessels of a rat model using our MNs device. This will be useful for patients with lymphedema in that they are painless and easy for patients to use. It is expected to be used as sensors for cancer-targeted drug delivery and biomarker extraction, as they have overcome the limitations of drug loading capacity and skin permeability.
