Using non-toxic and stable aramid nanofiber suspensions to make flame-resistant and anti-dripping coatings for ordinary plastics

Aramid nanofibers (ANFs) are attracting attention in various applications due to their high strength, modulus, excellent heat resistance, and UV blocking capabilities. In order to manufacture such ANF, short cut Kevlar must be added to the solution to which KOH is added to Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and stirred. And then, aramid nanofiber suspension is manufactured that cleans KOH/DMSO and solvent exchange with other organic solvents that adjust particle size using homogenization and maintains a stable phase. Through rheology control of aramid nanofibers, ANF suspension, which is stable and solvent exchangeable, was manufactured. This suspension can be coated on plastics without interfacial treatment. The coated plastic is flame-resistant and has an anti-dripping effect, preventing fire from spreading.
