Intravascular embolization is a minimally invasive procedure that effectively blocks blood vessels within a lesion, leading to the necrosis of myomas and other targeted tissues. This method is advantageous due to its short procedure time and minimal side effects. Despite these benefits, the development of embolic materials that meet all the necessary criteria—injectability through a catheter, uniform particle size, inherent radiopacity, and biodegradability. To address these limitations, we have developed biodegradable and radiopaque water-in-oil-in-water hollow poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) microparticles. These particles were produced using microfluidic devices. The microfluidic approach allows for the fine-tuning of particle size by adjusting the flow rates of the outer phase, discontinuous phase, and innermost phase, as well as the concentrations of PLGA and polyvinyl alcohol solutions. Also, hydrophilic inner phase allows us to load hydrophilic drug freely.
