Simple cathode interlayer material (CIM) was prepared through oxidation of N,N,N′,N′-tetramethyl ethylenediamine with hydrogen peroxide and named as EtNO. The material was composed of two amine oxide without conjugated spacer making synthetic and economical aspect to be simple and cost-effective. The CIM was applied on the surface of photoactive PM6:Y6 blends which resulted reduced work function (WF) of cathode to extract efficient selective charge collection. Additionally, EtNO forms a uniform layer via solution processing without causing any detrimental effects on the surface of the photoactive layer in OPVs. The resulting PM6:Y6 photovoltaic device with EtNO as cathode modifier exhibited an improved power density of 79.2 μW cm–2 under light emitting diode illumination (1000 lx, 254 μW cm–2) compared to the device with conventional PDINO CIL (73.1 μW cm–2).
