In this study, we present a series of organic-inorganic composite membranes that incorporate graphene oxide (GO) and quaternized poly(fluorene-terphenyl piperidinium) (QPFTP) polymer to enhance ion conductivity and physicochemical characteristics. This study showed that introduction of fluorene monomers affects performance of AEMs by influencing a twist angle within the polymer chain, and the ionic bond between the quaternary ammonium groups in the polymer matrix and the GO nanofiller significantly improved the membrane performance.
The dispersion of the inorganic nanofillers in the membrane matrix was investigated by FE-SEM, and it was proved that it was well dispersed without agglomeration on the matrix. The prepared composite membranes were studied in detail on the effect of GO content on nano-phase separation, ionic conductivity, mechanical properties, and durability of the AEM. This facile approach offers a new pathway to develop high-performance AEMs with superior properties.
