Anion exchange membranes, with their potential applications in AEMFC, water electrolysis, CCU, are currently limited by their poor chemical stability and low ion conductivity, which are significant barriers to commercialization. This research aims to overcome these limitations by developing a chemically stable polymer structure. In this work, we designed block copolymers based on polyphenylene that contains various cationic functional groups and investigated their effects on the ion conductivity and chemical stability of anion exchange membranes. Trimethyl ammonium, piperidinium, and pyrrolidinium were selected. GPC and NMR were used to examine the molecular weight and chemical structures of the polymers. The morphology was analyzed using SAXS to determine whether the ion channel was properly formed. Hydroxide ion conductivity was measured after electrochemical treatment to convert the counter ion into hydroxide anion. Durability tests were also conducted to compare the stability of cationic functional groups.
