내용
Functional biomaterials for antimicrobial, rapid bacteria detection and antifouling applications have gained increasing attention due to increasing awareness of health and safety concerns. The first part of this talk will describe the use of an intrinsically antimicrobial polymer, 2Gdm, for bacteria detection through triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) and triboelectric nanosensors (TENSs). By monitoring voltage changes after immersion 2Gdm coated electrodes in various concentrations of Gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Gram-positive Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae), we demonstrate the utility of X-2Gdm as a polymer dielectric for autonomous bacterial detection. The positively charged guanidinium groups present on the polymer 2Gdm can interact with the negatively charged phospholipid bilayer of bacteria, leading to bacterial death. As bacterial concentration increases, more bacteria adsorb onto the polymer, resulting in reduction of the surface potential of polymer thin films. This reduction in surface potential results in decreased triboelectric output for both TENGs and TENSs, facilitating bacterial detection. The second part of this talk will discuss our recent research efforts on the development of antifouling poly(amine-oxide) thin films featuring excellent fouling resistance against proteins, bacteria (E. coli and S. pneumoniae), and human blood cells.
