Research and Development Trends in Tissue Repair Biomaterials for Aesthetic Medicine

As the aging population and the demand for improved quality of life increase, the importance of aesthetic medicine, a form of modern medicine, is increasing. Tissue repair biomaterials used to repair human tissue are medical devices, and a representative example is dermal filler to improve facial wrinkles. This talk introduces the biocompatible materials applied to dermal fillers for cosmetic or therapeutic purposes including hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers. In particular, the production process, the performance-determinant parameters and the test items required for medical device licensing of HA filler are announced. New materials and fillers currently being researched to develop dermal fillers with advanced functions are introduced. The technology of Across Co. Ltd., a major company in HA dermal filler development and overseas export, and Hugel Inc., Across Co. Ltd.' parent company, will be briefly presented.
