Niobium oxide (Nb₂O₅) can deliver high power primarily through pseudocapacitive reactions on the electrode surface, enabling rapid charge storage and release. Nb₂O₅ has a high theoretical capacity of approximately 200 mAh/g, which is higher than that of Li₄Ti₅O₁₂ (about 175 mAh/g), making it advantageous for delivering higher energy density in HSC systems. The nanocomposite of mesoporous Nb₂O₅ and MXene increases pseudocapacitive reaction sites and addresses the inherently low electrical conductivity of Nb₂O₅. The HSC system combining Nb₂O₅-MXene anode and activated carbon cathode exhibits excellent electrochemical properties, including enhanced energy and power density, due to the synergistic effect of the high conductivity of MXene and pseudocapacitive characteristics of Nb₂O₅.
